Princess Evergreen

In this play with roots in the Japanese Noh drama “Basho,” a fir tree which watched over a man and wife outside their bedroom window has just been chopped down in the course of their divorce, and the spirit of the tree appears to the man in his forest refuge. As the spirits of tree and man learn that “no line divides one being from another,” their contemporary story parallels the old tale.
